Texas Chapter Member ProjectsJim AustinJim Austin is repairing the damage from this landing accident when the pilot of a 1980 Piper PA-28-161 may have mistaken Jim's 1948 Stinson 108-3 for an Aircraft Carrier. The incident took place at Northwest Regional Airport, Texas, on May 14, 2009.
The engine had to be overhauled due to a broken crank and awaits installation.
Here Jim shows how far the repair has come to the fuselage. It is almost ready for covering.
Update 5/16/2010: Visited Jim today and checked out the progress he's making. The fuselage has been repaired and is ready for covering. One wing, in the home made wing rotator, is covered. Jim made the rotator from plans in a recent EAA magazine. The other wing is ready for covering. It's beginning to look better than when the other plane landed on top of him. -Dick Ramsey
Kenneth RobbinsKen bought this 170B last summer from Joan Baas, Widow of our late member Bob Baas. The plane had been sitting in the hangar for 19 years. A rebuilt engine came with it and with some help from other Chapter members, the engine was changed and the plane is now flying. It's always good to see members helping each other and keeping good airplanes flying. Notice the grin on Ken's face as he stands beside his prize.
Doug SockwellDoug Sockwell's Commonwealth Skyranger featured in an article in Sportsman Pilot. Terry WallaceTerry Wallace is working on two projects at his hangar at Northwest Regional. Rebuilding and restoring a 1935 Davis D1W in foreground.
Terry is shown working on the final layout for the Davis Instrument Panel.

The wings for the Fairchild are nearing completion.
From Dick Ramsey, 5/16/2010: Was able to visit Terry's hangar today and see the progress he's making on the Davis he's putting together. The Fuselage is now ready to cover and the Panels have been installed. Only one of them will have instrumentation. Chapter member Clare Wright contributed to getting a correct color match with other parts of the plane.
